What is Adventure for Youth?

Adventure for Youth, created by Brigham Young University, Idaho, is a stay-away experience for teens that is centered on the gospel, personal development, spiritual growth, and fun! AFY takes the traditional summer camp program to a whole new level with the added experience of high adventure activities. Youth will stay at Moab Base Camp, a true desert getaway, surrounded by red rocks cliffs.

AFY is an exhilarating experience for teens. Youth can expect to engage in fun and adventurous activities while nourishing their faith. They will discover new things about themselves with group discussions and devotionals, and experience adrenaline-filled adventures while canyoneering, rafting, and hiking. Youth can build their faith this summer while exploring the great outdoors and experiencing god’s creations.

What Makes Adventure for Youth at Moab Base Camp Special?

AFY in Moab is unlike any program before. 

Moab Base Camp (formerly Entrada High Adventure Base), is located just outside of Moab, Utah near Arches and Canyonlands National Parks and has a unique desert program that offers a wide range of activities such as river rafting, mountain biking, canyoneering, climbing and rappelling, and more

Home to beautiful red rock formations, Moab Base Camp is the perfect backdrop for your experience. You’ll float down the Colorado River and see views from old western Hollywood. While you’re out exploring, you might also catch a glimpse of Native American rock art. Full of history and amazing landscapes, Moab is the perfect destination for all the activities you’ll do at AFY.

Additional Information

  • Provisions: All meals, activities, tent lodging, cot, and sleeping bag are provided. Take the sleeping bag home as a gift! For additional sleeping comfort, sleeping pads may be rented for $18.
  • Who can attend: Youth ages 13 (turning 14 by Dec 31, 2019) up to age 17 are eligible to attend AFY. For camping/housing purposes, 18-year-olds are considered adults and are thus unable to attend.
  • Amenities: While this is a rustic camping environment, there will be ample portable bathrooms available to men and women and a shower facility. Since the showers are limited, a schedule will be in place that will allow every participant the opportunity to shower at least once.

Madison Austin
studies Public Relations at Brigham Young University and is a marketing specialist at the Utah National Parks Council. She is an avid hiker and enjoys being outdoors. Growing up in the mountainous regions of Colorado and Virginia enabled her to follow these passions. After moving to Utah to attend college, she has spent her time fostering both a career in Communications and a love for Utah's National Parks.
