Camping involves sleeping on the ground a lot of the time, so it can sometimes be a little uncomfortable. There have been countless times where I woke up with a stiff neck or back after a night camping. However, I have found this simple formula to be true when planning outdoor adventures. Good food plus good sleep equals a great campout. That’s why finding the most comfortable and reliable sleeping gear for camping is important. Here are some products that can help you achieve the balance of good food and good sleep on your next outing.

Insulated Double V Sleeping Pad

A good sleeping pad can make all the difference between a night of great sleep and a lousy one. If you are looking for a comfortable, compact and lightweight sleeping pad, you need to check out Klymit. They make a number of different sleeping pads, so you can get the one thats just right for you. I tested out the Insulated Double V, and it was amazing! This has to be the most comfortable air mattress I have ever used, plus I was able to stay warm throughout the night (the temperature was in the low 20’s that night).

This product uses “Klymalite synthetic insulation which is lightweight, compressible and durable advanced synthetic insulation in the chambers that slows the transfer of air between the top and bottom halves of the pad for improved thermal performance.” The design of the air chambers makes it so that you don’t sag into the middle of the pad like you would on some air mattresses. The sleeping pad comes with a storage bag that can be used as a pump to inflate it, so you don’t have to pass out trying to blow it up yourself. I was very impressed with this product.

Camp Chef Sherpa Table

This is a great lightweight hardtop camp table with storage compartments. The telescoping legs make it easy to set up and store away. Assembling theSherpa Table for the first time was a little tricky because the fabric is taut and the pieces fit together tightly. There is a YouTube clip that is helpful to watch to get some tips on setting it up. My favorite part about this product is the storage under the table. There are four heavy duty zipper totes in the inside and one of them has an insulated waterproof lining so it can be used as a sink or small cooler. It provides a perfect solution for storing cooking utensils and food for an outdoor adventure. I am 6’5” and found this table a little short for me, but it would be the ideal height for youth. The Camp Chef Sherpa Table is a high-quality product and would make a great addition for family or Scout outings.

YayLabs Play and Freeze Ice Cream Ball Ice Cream Maker

One of my most memorable campouts was a trip to the Wind River Mountain Range in WY when our Assistant Scoutmaster packed in a small cheesecake. We were camped at Island Lake near the continental divide, and I remember to this day because of how amazing my little piece of cheesecake tasted! The Play and Freeze Ice Cream Maker has the same potential for a memorable treat on a campout. As long as you can pack in the ingredients and some ice, you are good. This product is very easy to use, and it is a fun activity to do with kids. You mix and pour cream or half and half, sugar, and some vanilla into one end then stuff a bunch of ice and a ¼ cup of rock salt in the other end and tighten the lid. You will want to find a nice level grassy area or spread a tarp down, so the ball doesn’t get covered in dirt as you roll it around. In about 15 to 20 minutes you have ice cream!

You can also get creative with your ice cream recipes and add fresh fruit or other fun stuff to the mix. I would imagine if you are camping in a high mountain area or winter camping and have some natural sources of ice nearby you could chip the ice into chunks rather than packing ice in with you. I recommend bringing this ball along on your next family camping trip. It will make for a fun little activity, and the best part – the ice cream tastes great!

Make your next camping trip even more memorable with these different products. It’s the perfect outdoor gear for you and your Scout’s next camping adventure. It will ensure that everyone eats well and sleeps well. Be on the lookout for more of my outdoor gear reviews in the future!
